05/07/2008    Irish 750cc support championship Round 5    Skerries
after returning home from athea and a few days back at work, it did'nt seem 5 minutes till i was being picked up at my house thursday evening by ivan who was driving to skerries, so it was a trip in the back of his van and the overnight ferry from hollyhead to dublin, arriving at skerries at 6am friday morning.
first time out on track was for the newcommers laps and after a lap i thought i must have a puncture because my back tyre was sliding and moving around just like i'd got a flat, but when i got in it was ok?
after speeking to some others it appears this is normal for skerries as it has little grip untill the track cleans up when some rubber gets 'laid down'! very weird!
i did enjoy the course though, especially after athea.
for the qualifying session i set about learning the course, finishing in 12th place, for a 2nd wave start.
for the race i got a great start, which was what i planned so i could get some clear track as i felt i could go a lot faster than in qualifying and it would be hard to pass. unfortunately the race got stopped on the 2nd lap, so we had to form back on the grid for a re-run race of 2 laps less.
this time i made a bad start, but moved up to behind early series leader darwyn young by the 2nd or 3rd lap, i just could'nt get a clean pass in and finally made a move on the start of the last lap at the first corner but ran wide dropping me 4 places. with less than a lap to go this fired me up enough to get by them all again just by the finish line to finish leading my group, but 8th place overall. however, that last lap was fun and what racing is all about, so all in all an enjoyable meeting.
championship leader, local lad damian howard scored his first win to extend his comfortable lead.

qualifying - 12th
race result - 8th
