13/07/2008    Irish 750cc support championship Round 6    Walderstown
walderstown was a round i was really looking forward to
mike russell came to my house friday evening as we was driving there again on the overnight ferry from hollyhead to dublin in my van as billy mckinstry was with ivan in scarborough at the 'cock of the north' meeting.
we finally arrived at walderstown at about 9am saturday morning, and after scrutineering and signing on quickly went on to the newcommers laps. this however was a waste of time as unlike the previous circuits as basically all the circuit newcommers followed 1 marshall in a slow procession, learning nothing. however the track seemed simple enough, quite fast and with a good surface.
however, as i went out for my qualifying session on the 'out' lap i only got as far as the first left hand road end corner and my front tucked and down i went. the bike only broke a rearset but unfortunately for me i broke my shoulder, 2 ribs and a collorbone, in what was a 'nothing' sort of crash and i could'nt really explain what happened! so, after a trip to the hospital (got billed for the ride!) i finally arrived back to the paddock saturday night (massive thanks to the marshall who gave me a lift back from the hospital, and bought me fish & chips!) for an uncomfortable nights kip in the van. to mak matters worse sunday was the first warm and sunny days racing i'd seen this year, so after watching the racing it was an awkward one armed drive back home, and my first irish road racing season over !

But its been a great experience and i hope to return for 2009, though probably just for selected rounds depending on funds allowing!

I'd also like to thank Billy McKinstry for his support during this season, who without his help and use of his McKinstry/JML GSXR750K7 i would'nt have been able to do as many rounds as i did.

roll on next year!
